Quick Card Security Check: 5 Steps You Shouldn't Skip

As the weather cools down and we start to move into another season, it’s also the perfect time to give your digital life a little seasonal tune-up. With just five quick steps, you can strengthen your defenses and stay scam-free this fall.

Set Up Transaction Alerts

Get notified every time your card is used. Whether you’re making a quick stop at the coffee shop or placing an online order, alerts keep you in the know and can help you spot suspicious activity instantly.

In Online Banking, visit “More” then “Tools” and then “Alerts.” Under this tab you can set alerts in a variety of categories, including accounts, authentication, budgets, cards, mobile deposit, transfers, and more.

Enable Card Lock

Not using your debit or credit card right now? Lock it temporarily with just a tap. You can unblock your card at family time.

In Online Banking, visit “More” then “Member Services” and “Card Management.”

Update Your Passwords

If it’s been a while since you changed your online banking password, now is a great time. Strong, unique passwords are your first line of defense against hackers.

Password tip: Use a passphrase (like a favorite quote or lyric) combined with numbers and symbols; something only you would remember.

Review Third-Party App Permissions

You’d be surprised how many apps have access to your data or financial information. Take a minute to check your phone and remove any outdated apps or review what permissions they have.

Learn the Signs of a Scam

Scammers are getting sneakier with fake texts, emails, and calls that look like they’re from companies you trust, including us. If someone asks for your password, PIN, or to click a suspicious link, stop and think. Be aware of common scams, their red flags, and how to stay safe

Remember: Family Trust will never call or text you asking for personal information or one-time passcodes.

Securing your account doesn’t have to be time-consuming, it just takes a few minutes and makes smart habits. If you ever spot something suspicious, contact us right away.

Need help turning on alerts or locking your card? Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page on website or stop by your local branch. We’re here to help you stay safe, so you can focus on what really matters to you.
