Don't Let Scams Steal Your Holiday Spirit: Fraud Prevention Reminders

'Tis the season to spread cheer, but it's also the time to remain cautious against fraud attempts. Here are a few reminders to stay safe this holiday season:

  • Protect Your Info: Never disclose sensitive information via email or phone calls. This includes account numbers, social security details, login credentials, and card information. Remember, Family Trust will never contact you to ask for such information through these channels.

  • Donate Wisely: Keep records of your charitable donations and use traceable payment methods like credit cards or checks. Scams often request donations via cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. Always research charities before donating at give.org.

  • Beware of Email Survey Links: Scammers spoof follow-up email surveys to collect private data or install malware. Avoid clicking unsolicited email links.

  • Check Links Carefully: Hover over links in unsolicited emails before clicking to verify the URL. Delete suspicious emails without engaging further.

  • Gift Card Scams: Question any requests for gift card payments for debts or bills. Although they do make great gifts, remember that legitimate businesses do not accept gift cards as payment. Only purchase gift cards from trusted retailers. Visit a Family Trust branch to purchase a Visa Gift Card without a fee now through the end of the year.

  • Travel Scams Alert: Be cautious when booking holiday travel. Avoid scams contacting you about fake flight cancellations followed by requests for additional payments. Contact airlines or providers directly if you suspect any issues with bookings. Avoid clicking links in emails or messages unless you can verify that it’s legitimate.

Keeping these tips in mind and remaining vigilant can ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable holiday shopping experience.
