Family Trust Federal Credit Union (Family Trust) is partnering with the Phillis Wheatley Community Center and the Riley Institute at Furman University to support Financial Foundations, a new financial education initiative designed to provide accessible personal finance classes for adults in the Greenville community.
The program will offer free educational sessions focused on key financial topics such as budgeting, saving, banking basics, credit management, and debt reduction. Classes will be hosted at the Phillis Wheatley Community Center and are designed to help participants build the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed financial decisions.
Family Trust Federal Credit Union will provide training materials and instructors for the program, reinforcing the credit union’s long-standing commitment to financial literacy and community outreach.
“Financial education is one of the most powerful tools we can provide to help individuals build long-term stability and opportunity,” said Ryan Harvey, President and CEO of Family Trust Federal Credit Union. “We are proud to partner with the Phillis Wheatley Community Center and the Riley Institute to make these resources more accessible and to support individuals and families working toward their financial goals.”
The Financial Foundations program was developed through Furman University’s Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Initiative. The program’s goal is to provide free, easy-to-access financial education for residents of the Nicholtown community and the broader Greenville area.
Phillis Wheatley Community Center serves as a hub for education, community support, and personal development in Greenville. Its mission is to collaborate with community partners to empower individuals, particularly those in underserved communities, with the tools needed to achieve self-sufficiency and upward mobility.
"The Phillis Wheatley Community Center is excited to collaborate with Family Federal Credit Union to bring Financial Literacy workshops to our community,” said Laurie Franklin, Operations Director at the Phillis Wheatley Community Center. “Through this series, participants will have the opportunity to broaden their financial understanding, explore new financial strategies, and gain skills that can help empower and support their families."
