Final numbers are in from our Buy Local, Bank Local initiative. Together, we spent over $17 million in York County during the holiday season. Credit union members are to thank for making the impact by shifting spending habits to support your neighbors.
Family Trust launched its Buy Local initiative to support school and local business owners. When you buy locally, $15 of every $100 you spend at corporate chain in York County is reinvested locally. And for every $100 you spend at a locally-owned business in York County, $45 is reinvested into our community through things like wages, supplies, and utilities. Shopping locally is especially important in South Carolina, which supports local schools with sales tax revenue.
“Our children are successful because of local businesses so let’s show our support to them by buying local! We all can make a difference in our community,” said Dr. Vernon Prosser, Superintendent of York School District.
While the local economy reaped the benefits of increased local spending, Family Trust members also were rewarded. Members earned over 7 million Extra Awards points that can be redeemed for cash, gift cards and prizes.
Five members won $100 cash prizes in our drawing as part of the Buy Local Bank Local program. Family Trust members were entered for each local purchase made through Dec. 31. Winners were:
- Margaret Bailes
- Candace Boulware
- Joshua Demarest
- Justin Helms
- David Oates
But we’re not done yet. For the next couple of months we’ll be reminding York County folks why banking local is important too. Here at Family Trust, members benefit from personal service, financial guidance, better rates, and lower fees – all from local people who care about you and our community.
