Program develops employee leaders


Nine employees recently completed the Family Trust Leadership Institute held to develop leaders within the credit union.

The institute was conducted over eight months by Lee Gardner, President/CEO. Participants attended workshops, read several books and completed numerous assignments. The series culminated with presentations that outlined strategies for the credit union.

“Growing leaders from within is part of our culture and critical to the success of the credit union,” says Gardner. “The Leadership Institute gave these select employees an opportunity to explore a variety of topics and sharpen skills they’ll need for the future.”

Topics included personal development, emotional intelligence and collaboration; communication; process management; organizational structure and theory of strategy.

“The Leadership Institute was a very memorable experience.” says graduate Malika Crawford, adding that the lesson on personal mission and vision statements was most influential to her. “Each day I ask, ‘What do I want others to think of when they hear my name.’ I realize that being a successful leader starts with me.”
