Attention debit point lovers! Now you can earn Debit awards points three times faster when you use Premier Choice Checking. You’ll earn one point for every $1 spent in a signature transaction, making it easier than ever to earn points for travel, gift cards and cash.
As of Oct. 1, Debit awards will be exclusive to Premier Choice and will not accrue for other checking accounts. This change is part of an ongoing effort to simplify our checking accounts so members have three distinct options. There’s something for everyone.
True Choice: a simple, free checking account for everyday needs.
Premier Choice: an interest-earning checking account, with loan discounts, and free non-Family Trust ATMs, Debit awards and identity theft protection. You can waive the $10 monthly fee with $10,000 in combined deposit balances.
Fresh Start: an account for those who have experienced past banking difficulties.
Here are answers to some questions you might have
Will I stop earning points if I do not have Premier Choice?
Checking accounts will continue to accumulate debit points through September 30. As of October 1, only Premier Choice Checking will earn Debit awards points; other free basic checking accounts will not carry the benefit of debit awards points.
What will happen to the debit points I have?
The expiration date and value of points will not change. Accumulated points are good for three years from purchase. Visit online banking to see what you’ve earned.
How can I keep earning awards points?
Premier Choice users earn one point for every $1 spent with a signature transaction. You can switch to Premier Choice Checking by calling 803-367-4100, using online chat, or visiting a branch. A Platinum Visa Credit Card also earns one point for every $1 spent with a signature transaction. Premier Choice Debit and Platinum Visa credit points are combined.
Why is Family Trust changing the Debit Awards program?
During our effort to simplify checking choices, we learned that members greatly value security and technology. Maintaining the highest levels of security and staying current with the latest trends in technology is very costly. Changing the awards program allows us to enhance these products and services.
In recent months, we’ve upgraded our mobile app with card controls, and introduced a program that will text, email and call you when fraud is detected on your cards. Changes coming soon include Visa Checkout, which makes shopping online more convenient by enabling you to enter payment information once with all your devices (PC, tablet, and smart phone). We also plan to introduce Visa Purchase Alerts that give you more control over your spending activity, and plan to integrate Apple Pay into the Family Trust mobile app.
