Calling all teens for advisory board

We get it, you’re enjoying summer break. But, if you’re a motivated, energetic teen looking for volunteer opportunities this fall, consider our Youth Advisory Board.

In case you need a reason to apply, we have 7. Drumroll, please…

7. Mom made me…

6. Be a spokesperson for Family Trust.

5. Looks good on a resume and college application.

4. Earn volunteer hours needed for school service clubs.

3. Tell Family Trust what teens like and want.

2. $1,000 scholarship opportunity for senior students who’ve served at least one year.

And finally, the No. 1 reason to apply for our Youth Advisory Board: Free food and stuff (“swag” as some YAB members call it)!

The Youth Advisory Board, open to teens ages 15 to 17, meets once a month at the Family Trust Operations Center in Rock Hill. Members start with a team-building activity, will learn about money management and how credit unions work.

Apply online by Sept. 14. We’d love to have at least one student from every high school in the county.

Board members returning for the 2014-2015 school year are Miriam Coburn and Tori Burrell of Clover High School; Andrew Weaver of Nation Ford, Elise Watts and Mercedes Cain, both of Northwestern High School; Shekinah Lightner of South Pointe High School; Taylr Sharp and MaKoya Jones, both of York Comprehensive High School.
